I took this photograph when I felt myself bending at the knee, exactly like the female figure I see in the image above. Her arms are both lifted and she looks to me as if she's about to usher in a change.

One night, as I was sorting through my Venice photographs with Ravel playing in the background, I suddenly noticed that the image I was looking at sounded, at that moment, exactly like the music looked. It was uncanny and intensely pleasurable to experience synesthesia in both directions at the same time. I was curious to see if I could match other images to the other parts of the music; when I found I could, I made a little video called "Ravel in Pink." I was interested to later learn that the composer Ravel had the same kind of bi-directional synesthesia I have.
